Meet the people committed to this mission
I'm proud of the Atlantic salmon we grow. The quality of our salmon is something that I stand behind.– Thue Holm, CEO
At Langsand Laks we listen to the debate. This debate has particularly raged around the use of fish oil and fishmeal in salmon diets. With a ratio of fish in to fish out (FIFO) of less than 1.4, we are responsibly converting fish meal and oil into high quality salmon.
Langsand Laks is not only operating an energy efficient recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), it is protecting our environment at a larger scale. By generating geothermal and wind on-site, Langsand Laks is working with the local climate to deliver the energy it needs for operation without contributing to the changes in our global climate.
Langsand Laks is proud to be located in Denmark. Denmark is not only a leader in manufacturing wind turbines it is also a pioneer in subsidizing its energy usage with renewable sources.
Growing Atlantic salmon on land in controlled environments reduces negative impacts to the ocean.
Sustainable seafood does not jeopardize the ecosystems from which it was acquired.
Waste, escapees, and spread of disease are mitigated at Langsand Laks.
Langsand Laks operates a closed containment recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). In this system, salmon are hatched and raised to maturity in tanks constructed on land. Water from the tanks is continually filtered, maintaining a controlled environment for healthy fish.
Langsand Laks RAS uses state-of-the-art technology from Billund Aquaculture, an international technology company with a 25-year track record delivering successful recirculating systems. These systems offer a viable alternative to ocean net-pen farming, employing energy and water efficient production techniques on a small-scale, considering its capacity of reaching 4,000 metric tonnes in size.

Protein in salmon contains all the essential amino acids. Salmon can therefore serve as a sole source of protein.
Salmon is a good
source of the long, polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA.
The major form of vitamin A is retinol. Vitamin A has an important function for the retina of the eye and helps to keep the mucous membrane intact.
Fat-soluble vitamin D improves the uptake of calcium and phosphates in the intestine and also helps regulate the level of calcium in the blood.
Vitamin B12 helps the formation of red blood cells. Too little vitamin B12 can result in a form of anemia.
Iodine plays a central role in metabolism by regulating important hormones. Fish is an important dietary source of iodine.

MBA Seafood Watch recommend which seafood to buy or avoid, helping consumers and businesses become advocates for ocean-friendly seafood. You can get their recommendations online, or on your mobile devices. Langsand Laks is aiming to be evaluated by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch external assessment program. This program would evaluate Langsand Laks best practices to pursue a specific recommendation for Atlantic salmon grown in closed containment land-based conditions.
Whole Foods Market owns and operates a chain of natural foods supermarkets. Their seafood quality standards are committed to ensure only the best quality products are on the shelves.
